Haus Hohe Pappeln
This pretty, rustic shack at the edge of an alley of poplars, holds the thoughts and habits of Henry Van de Velde, from when he came to settle in the countryside, not far from his school, with his family of 5 children. You get a feel for his dependent lifestyle, the moods of his patron, the duke Wilhem Ernst, and the rumours amongst the local inward-looking population in the face of this enlightened individual. Taking the time to poke around is like being briefly plunged into the atmosphere of a period that was sluggishly coming out of stasis.
